About Mentr

I am Jekabs Musins. I run Personify, which builds AI versions of coaches and experts so their clients can get answers between sessions. Mentr is separate, I write it myself, and this page exists so you know both of those things before you read anything else here.

Why this site exists

I started reading mentoring research properly while working on something else, and kept hitting the same problem. Most of what gets published about mentoring is a statistics roundup, and most of those roundups are quoting other roundups. Figures get repeated for years with no date on them. Two of the most widely quoted numbers about mentoring in the Fortune 500 are measuring different things over different periods, and almost nobody who republishes them says so.

That is a fixable problem, and fixing it is what this site is for.

How the numbers here work

Every figure names its publisher and the year the data describes, rather than the year somebody wrote about it. Those are usually different, and the gap between them is where most of the errors in this field live. Where a number cannot be traced back to whoever originally produced it, the page says so, or the number is not here at all.

The same rule applies to frameworks. If something is presented as an established model, it names who established it. Plenty of the ones circulating in this field have no author at all, and that is worth saying out loud rather than passing along.

The commercial part

Personify is my company. I will mention it here when it is genuinely the relevant thing to mention, which will not be often, and it will be obvious when I do. If you are wondering whether something on this site is an advert, the commercial relationship is this paragraph, and there is not a second one hiding somewhere else.
