Privacy Policy
Mentr runs analytics to see what gets read. Nothing loads until you say yes, and you can say no just as easily.
Mentr has no accounts and no comments. You can submit a newsletter signup, a tool listing request, or a sponsorship request. The information those forms collect is described below. Optional analytics record reading behavior only if you accept the banner on your first visit. Decline it, or never answer it, and those tools do not load.
The newsletter form
Typing an address into the newsletter form stores three things: the address, the time it was submitted, and the page the form was on. That is kept in a Cloudflare KV store owned by Mentr, not a third party. Nothing else is collected there, and nothing is sent to that address until the first digest exists. Write to hello@mentr.me and it is deleted.
Tool and sponsorship requests
When you submit a tool or sponsorship request, we store your tool name, website, email, and any optional details you provide, such as your name, relationship to the tool, category, description, intended audience, pricing page, and notes. We also record the submission time, the referring page path, your selected option and its price and billing frequency, and the application and payment status. For a paid option we add Stripe's references for the payment or subscription, when it was paid, and any refund. For express review we also record when the decision is due, the decision, and when any feedback was sent. These records are held in Mentr's Cloudflare KV store and used to review and reply to your request. Submitting does not publish a listing. Contact hello@mentr.me to request a correction or deletion.
Payments
The seller of paid options is mentr.me. Payments are processed by Stripe; the charge appears on your statement as MENTR.ME. You enter your card or other payment details on Stripe's own checkout page, not on this site, so those details go to Stripe rather than to Mentr. Stripe receives what you enter there, along with the option you chose, its price, and the email address you gave on the form, which prefills the checkout. Stripe handles all of it under the Stripe Privacy Policy. Mentr receives the payment's status and Stripe's references, which are stored with your request as described above.
What runs, if you accept
Google Analytics, PostHog, and Microsoft Clarity. Between them they tell me which articles get read, how people find the site, and roughly where from: page views, referrers, browser and device type, and an approximate location from a truncated IP address rather than the address itself. PostHog runs on its EU cloud, hosted in Frankfurt, and autocapture is off: it records the events this site explicitly sends, not every click and keystroke. Neither tool is used to identify you personally, and nothing here has a login for that data to attach to.
Google signals and advertising features
Google Analytics here has Google signals switched on. If you accept and are signed in to a Google account with ad personalization on, Google can connect your visit to that account and use its advertising cookies alongside the Analytics one. Mentr only sees grouped reports, such as interests and devices, never who you are. To opt out, decline under "Cookie preferences", turn off ad personalization in Google's My Ad Center, or install Google's Analytics opt-out add-on.
Beyond page views, the events this site sends are about reading and about the tool library rather than about you: how far down an article you got, how long the tab was actually in front of you, whether a newsletter signup or a tool request completed, what was searched for in the tool library, and which tool pages and tool websites were opened from it. They carry the article's category, publication date, and length, or the tool and the option involved, and never your name or email address. A search that contains an @ sign is not sent at all.
If you pay for a tool library option, the payment event also carries Stripe's reference for that checkout, so a reloaded confirmation page is not counted as a second payment. Mentr can match that reference to the payment in its own records, as described under Payments above. For the same reason, once you accept, your browser keeps the last few references it has reported.
Microsoft Clarity is the one tool here that records rather than counts. It replays a visit: where the pointer moved, what was clicked, how the page was scrolled, reconstructed from the page you were already looking at. The text it captures is the article text, which is public and the same for everyone. What you type is masked before it leaves your browser, and the newsletter form is first party and never reaches Microsoft either way. It is Microsoft's service, so unlike PostHog the data does not stay in Europe. It runs behind the same banner as everything else: decline, and no Clarity script is fetched at all.
Nothing loads before you choose
The banner on your first visit is the gate, not a formality. Neither tool's script reaches your browser until you press Accept. Decline, close the tab, or ignore it, and the page you were reading is the only thing that loaded. You can change your mind later from "Cookie preferences" in the footer, on any page.
What the host sees
The site is served by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes the technical details of each request, including your IP address, the page you asked for, your browser's user agent, and the time. That happens so the page can reach you and so the site can be protected from attack. It is the ordinary operation of a web server rather than anything specific to this site.
Links to other sites
Mentr links out to research, publishers, and other people's work, often. Once you follow one of those links you are on someone else's site under their privacy policy, not this one. Some of them will do more than this site does.
If this changes
If what's collected here changes again, this page gets updated before that goes live rather than after. If you are reading this page, it describes the site as it currently is.
Getting in touch
Questions about this page, or corrections to anything on the site, go to hello@mentr.me. That address reaches mentr.me, the operator of this site, and it is the controller contact for anything on this page.
Offering submissions
When you submit an offering for the offerings directory, the form collects the offering name, the creator, the offering's website, a summary, and your email. It also collects, if you provide them, your name, a public profile page, and notes, along with how you are related to the offering. We record the time you confirmed you created the offering or are allowed to list it, and the page the form was sent from. These records are stored in Mentr's Cloudflare KV store to review your submission and reply to you. Submitting does not publish a listing, and there is no payment on this form. Submissions are kept while they are under review and for the record of the decision, and you can ask for yours to be deleted.
The form runs a spam check with Cloudflare Turnstile. Cloudflare receives your IP address to do that, and Mentr does not store it with your submission. The form sets no cookies. To request a correction or deletion, contact hello@mentr.me.
